Blogger problems

Blogger is being too temperamental for my liking!  I will be setting up a new blog on a new platform ( probably wordpress)  in the coming days. A shiny new blog 😊

Back after a blogging break :-)

Quite a few people emailed to say they missed looking at my blog, so here I am.
Got a few things to share over the coming week-these days I'm far more interested in mixed media, I've got rather bored of making cards ( although I still make a few for family and friends).  I find mixed media a lot more absorbing and creative, using different mediums and techniques, and can spend hours making one thing. Great fun :-)   Got a couple of courses lined up, which I'm really looking forward to!

Mixed media

My poor neglected blog! I completely forget about it at times.

Anyhow, I decided to have a play with some mixed media. This started life as an oval piece of MDF. I glued on some scrunched up tissue paper, then some MDF and cardboard shapes (some die cut), then painted on some black gesso.
I don't have any of the beautiful shimmery paints that are often used in these mixed media pieces, so decided to try out just using gilding waxes, and was rather pleased with the results :-)

I never intended this to be a finished piece-just a practice piece. But I really like it, so may well hang it on my wall in my craft room.

Getting inky :-)

There's nothing I love better than starting with a blank sheet of white paper, and creating something original.

There have been some brilliant shows on Hochanda just recently- lots of stamping and inking techniques. Some I was familiar with, others have been new to me.

I was watching shows with Beverley Bee Crafty today, and was really inspired! I hot footed to my craft room, with my iPad, and crafted along to the programme.

For this sample piece, I blended 2 Distress inks, lay a stencil over the top, and lightly spritzed water over it. I gave it a minute to react with the ink, took off the  stencil and patted the whole thing with some kitchen roll. Voila! It's so pretty, I will be using it in a card very soon, and will post it on here when it's finished :-)

Promarker organisation!

Something I've been meaning to do for a long time!

Love my Promarker alcohol pens, and have been collecting them for a few years. They need to be stored horizontally, but the problem with this is that because the ends of the pens aren't marked with the colour or a number, it's difficult to find just the one you want.

bought a sheet of sticky dots, coloured them as appropriate, and then numbered each pen.

I then did a kind of directory in my notebook, together with colour swatches in the book, and have started to write down favourite blending combinations with examples.

I'm really into colouring at the moment, and already this new system is proving to be perfect!  It's a very simple system, and works perfectly for me!

Card from the past

Facebook reminded me today that I posted this picture 4 years ago :-)

At this time, I was going to regular classes at the Stampers Gallery in Tarleton, Lancs. We used to have a great time, and the lovely owners, Sue and Phil, had some talented crafters running courses. I think the lady who helped us make this card was called Lynne.

Anyway - this was an easel card we made. Poor quality photo sorry, as my phone at that time didn't have a very good spec camera, but I think you'll get the idea. I must get it out of my box of many cards, and work out how to reproduce it-I think my brother would appreciate it on his birthday. He loves music and plays the guitar, and I think it will be perfect for him. :-)

Anniversary card

...... coming up :-)

I'm not able to share it yet, as it is a commission for a friend to give to her husband on their wedding anniversary next weekend. Can't spill the beans yet!

I took inspiration from one of the shows on Hochanda, where Dawn showed some creative ideas on how to use nesting dies. I remembered I had some Xcut Paisley nesting dies, and who would think they could be used so inventively. I also used some bakers twine, some very pretty backing paper, a label die, teeny foam pads to raise elements on the card, to give it dimension, ink and ......well, you'll have to wait and see!
